About Us

Who We Are

The Canadian Sugar Beet Producers Association (CSBPA) is a non-profit organization who acts as the national voice for sugar beet farmers across Canada. We represent over 200 farm families who grow high-quality, sustainable sugar beets for both domestic use and international markets.

These farm families grow sugar beets in two key regions:

  • Alberta, where farmers cultivate approximately 28,000 acres of sugar beets each year. These beets are processed into the only source of 100% Canadian sugar, verified as sustainable by the Farm Sustainability Assessment (FSA).

  • Ontario, where growers produce approximately 10,000 acres of sugar beets annually, all of which are exported to the United States.

Together, our members play a critical role in supporting Canadian agriculture, promoting sustainability, and contributing to strong rural economies.

What We Do

The Canadian Sugar Beet Producers Association (CSBPA) is the national governing body that directs, controls, leads, and supports sugar beet production in Canada.

We advocate for Canada's growers and work to ensure the long-term success of the industry by:

  • Representing farmers at the federal level through policy development, advocacy, and government relations

  • Supporting trade negotiations and market access for Canadian-grown sugar beets

  • Promoting sustainability and best practices across all aspects of production

  • Providing leadership and coordination for national initiatives in the sugar beet sector

Through these efforts, we help ensure that Canadian sugar beet farming remains viable, competitive, and forward-looking.

Partner Organizations

Historically, the CSBPA represented farm families across the nation as sugar beets were grown in Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec. However, due to a lack of a Domestic Sugar Policy, sugar beets are now only grown in two provinces. Each province has their own regional organization that support farmers on the ground as the CSBPA represents growers at the national level.

Alberta Sugar Beet Growers (ASBG):

Located in Taber, Alberta, ASBG advocates for Alberta’s sugar beet farmers and liaises with provincial agricultural authorities. The organization also facilitates the connection between growers and Canada’s only sugar beet refinery, which produces the country’s sole source of 100% Canadian sugar.

Ontario Sugar Beet Growers’ Association (OSGA):

The OSGA represents Ontario producers who grow approximately 8,000 acres of sugar beets annually for export to the United States. Their mission is to promote profitable, sustainable sugar beet production in Ontario and serve as the unified voice for growers in the province.
